  40. ExtraDOS Toolbox is a compilation of tools useful to Microsoft DOS
  41. users.  I originally wrote the first version of ExtraDOS under MS-DOS
  42. because I found a need for them and there were no commercially
  43. available products that provided these functions.  Some ExtraDOS tools
  44. were designed to enhance programs already found in MS-DOS.  Other
  45. tools were familiar to the Unix world, but were not available in
  46. MS-DOS.  Over the years this collection has grown into large group of
  47. very useful tools.  Some of these utilities are duplicates of those
  48. found elsewhere, but often provide much better features or reduced
  49. memory overhead than similar utilities found elsewhere.  In addition,
  50. ExtraDOS complements PC-Tools and Norton Utilities with added tools
  51. these programs do not provide.

  53. Over thirty of the ExtraDOS Toolbox utilities have been selected by
  54. Paul Somerson, former Executive Editor of PC Magazine, for Bantam
  55. Books', DOS Power Tools, 2nd Edition, Revised and Expanded for DOS
  56. 5.0.  Many of the ExtraDOS Toolbox utilities are now appearing in many
  57. popular DOS books that feature shareware enhancements for DOS.

  101.   Upon notification of defects in material or workmanship,
  102.   within the warranty period of 45 days from the date of purchase,
  103.   Foley Hi-Tech Systems will, at its option, replace the defective
  104.   diskette or refund the license fee. If you need to return a product,
  105.   call the Foley Hi-Tech Systems Technical Support Service Department
  106.   to obtain a return authorization number. The remedy for breach of
  107.   this warranty shall be limited to replacement or refund and shall
  108.   not encompass any other damages, including but not limited to loss
  109.   of profit, and special, incidental, consequential, or other similar
  110.   claims.

  137. CHIMES - Quarterly hour clock chimes

  141. DESCRIPTION
  142.  
  143.   Chimes is a terminate-and-stay resident program that attaches itself
  144.   to the BIOS timer tick interrupt.  The program counts the time
  145.   internally, so that it does not bring any overhead into system
  146.   throughput by using DOS functions.  When the program realizes that
  147.   the time is nearing the hour, the program starts chiming.
  148.  
  149.   In its default mode, chimes produces "Time Tone" beeps.  These
  150.   consist of three short beeps, starting at three seconds before the
  151.   hour.  Then, at the hour, a longer and higher beep is given.  Many
  152.   of the dial-up time services provide such a time tone.

  154.   Chimes can be given the /M option on the command line to provide the
  155.   different clock chimes.  Using  CHIMES /M1  would setup chimes to
  156.   use the Westminster chimes.

  159.   The Westminster chimes are the chimes that are played by Big Ben,
  160.   the most famous of all clock towers.  From its home in London,
  161.   England, the clock plays a melody based on a composition by Handel.
  162.  
  163.   The Saint Michael Chimes are also from England.  However, the Saint
  164.   Michael Chimes were cast by an English craftsman for a church in
  165.   Charleston, South Carolina during the Revolutionary war.  However,
  166.   the British captured this city by battle, and took the bells back to
  167.   England. Amazingly enough, the American rebels stole the molds for
  168.   the bells, and a second set of bells was cast and installed in the
  169.   Carolinian church.

  171.   The Whittington chimes were named for Lord Mayor Richard
  172.   Whittington. Whittington started life in poverty.  However, he made
  173.   money in great volume by trading.  After his terms as Lord Mayor of
  174.   London, he became a philanthropist.

  176.   If you select the M0 option of the program, chimes will only become
  177.   active  at the hour.  Otherwise, chimes will faithfully reproduce
  178.   the chimes for each quarter hour of the clock.  The program will
  179.   also strike the hour by chiming for each hour, or chiming just once
  180.   for the half hour.

  212. AUTOLOAD BYPASS

  214.   If you have added chimes to your machines AUTOEXEC.BAT and sometimes
  215.   wish to skip the loading of the program then you may use the bypass
  216.   keys.  Holding down the [CTRL][ALT][LSHIFT] will cause the program
  217.   to ask you if you wish to abort the installation.  If you respond
  218.   with a Y the program will not load into memory.

  224.   Often we get calls from people asking questions that can be
  225.   solved easily by checking through the manual before calling tech
  226.   support. We ask that you browse the manual and look for information
  227.   pertaining to your particular problem before calling. This can often
  228.   save you time, as we take a collection of our most common questions
  229.   and try to address them in this manual.

  231.   We offer alternative methods besides the conventional phone
  232.   support, such as a multi-line 24-hour BBS system. We also monitor
  233.   most technical conferences in the BBS Interlink and RelayNet
  234.   networks as well as many conferences on the CompuServe
  235.   Information System. You may send messages and questions via any of
  236.   these services.

  238.   Currently our Tech Support office is staffed Monday through Friday
  239.   from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time. There is a chance,
  240.   however, that someone is in the office outside this time frame.

  242.   business hours.  Registered users are given unlimited technical

  261.   grown tools that I just could not stand to live without.  Many times
  262.   someone would see me using them and ask for a copy.  This was a big
  263.   mistake.  All of the sudden I had to debug my code.  Someone would
  264.   call me up and remind me of some problem with a utility that I had
  265.   written or asked me to just add this one little feature.  Six years
  266.   later the package has evolved to its current state.  Along the way I
  267.   have had the help of many people in testing and ideas for products.
